Sculpted by artist and former collegiate football player Jeffrey Jude Seaman, this 18-inch bronze captures Jim Tressel in the pose generations of players came to know by heart: the sideline stance, arms crossed, head cocked ever so slightly — and that glare. Tressel, who built championship programs as head coach at Youngstown State and Ohio State before going on to serve as Ohio's lieutenant governor, was known as much for his even-keeled demeanor as for his competitive fire. But every player who ever lined up for him knew the look this sculpture immortalizes. If that glare found you, you didn't need words — you already knew you'd messed up, and a lecture was coming.
Seaman, who experienced that same sideline scrutiny firsthand as a player, brings an insider's eye to the piece, translating a fleeting, unmistakable moment of coaching intensity into lasting bronze. The work is as much a tribute to a coaching legacy defined by discipline and accountability as it is a wink to anyone who ever played for him and remembers exactly what that glare meant.
